About Kara
An educator from the start, Kara’s career began in 1988, when she became a teacher of English as an additional language. Kara worked in Paris, San Francisco, and her hometown of Chicago before settling in London in 2000. It was in London that she discovered Pilates, and soon applied her love of teaching to the practice, becoming first a Pilates teacher, and soon after, a trainer of future Pilates instructors.
Kara first trained under Anne-Marie Zulkahari, qualifying as a Pilates teacher in 2002 and earning her teaching accreditation from the Pilates Foundation in both mat and equipment Pilates. She soon opened a fully equipped home studio, offering one-to-one and small-group sessions that emphasize mindful, functional movement. From 2006 to 2020, Kara also taught at acclaimed studios including Triyoga London and Pilates and Yoga Movement London.
Kara holds a master’s degree in adult education, and has always felt at home instructing adult learners. Starting in 2011, Kara spent a decade training Pilates teachers through the Pilates Foundation certification program. A Pink Ribbon–certified instructor since 2006, Kara has also led specialized workshops for other Pilates teachers, training them to best support breast cancer patients and work with aging populations.
Kara has partnered with cancer recovery charity Maggie’s at the Royal Free to teach mat Pilates to cancer patients, and has done extensive work with clients receiving palliative care, always guided by her belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to move, even at the end of life.
This year, Kara is deepening her exploration of the relationship between body, mind, and movement by working toward certification in somatic movement education with Body-Mind Centering.
“I love teaching, connecting with people, and helping them feel better through movement,” Kara says. Her home studio is a welcoming, restorative space where clients can build strength, heal, and thrive at any life stage.
